Parliamentary scrutiny in Belgium of the European decision making process.
The Federal Advisory Committee on European Affairs

The most important parliamentary tool that the Belgean Federal Parliament can use with a view to controlling the European decision making process is the Federal Advisory Committee on European Affairs.

Set up

The Advisory Committee of the House was set up on 25 April 1985.

Following the State reform, it was decided to set up in May 1995 a joint Advisory Committee for European Affairs, composed of the Advisory Committee of the House (ten members of the House of Representatives and ten members of the European Parliament elected in Belgium) and a Senate’s delegation of 10 members. The title of the joint committee is the Federal Advisory Committee on European Affairs. It is, nevertheless, still possible for the Advisory Committee of the House to meet separately.
